Jake Davis Analytics is where data meets sports (and whatever else I might find interesting) with some retro arcade energy and flair.

I’m Jake Davis - data scientist by trade, sports obsessive by nature. I build models, dig into numbers, and find some interesting insights that may or may not do anything useful. Every take is backed by real analysis, even if the takes are fire hot or sort of dumb.

What to Expect

Semi-regular (or occassional, or rare, I haven’t decided yet!) posts breaking down games, seasons, and trends with (some) statistical rigor. You’ll find answers to questions you might not have known to ask, and some creative statistical experiments that might fail, but will be fun nonetheless.

Plus, eventually there will be ongoing models and rankings that update throughout the season - not just hot takes, but live predictions you can track.

The Approach

I use traditional statistics, machine learning, and other techniques for analysis. I generally favor practical methods over complex ones, clear explanations over jargon, and being wrong publicly over being vague privately. The goal is to have fun, and I will (try) to post all code to Github so you can have fun too. And I may bring in some collaborators - only time will tell

Get Involved

I love a rigorous answer to a somewhat dumb or arbitrary question, so send along any questions you might want answered in a few thousand written words and a few thousand lines of code.
